Family Connection recently initiated a media campaign with billboards to educate the community about the prevalence of underage drinking and reducing the rate of underage consumption. We are also about to begin completing environmental surveys, or “e-scans”, of local businesses. Through a grant received from Union County Commissioner’s Office, local teens will be paid to enter local businesses, make observations about the placement of alcohol, price and promotion and then complete a reporting form. The teens will be looking specifically for anything that would attract the attention of a teenager to the displays. These findings will then be shared with the local businesses and advice will be given to help reduce underage alcohol sales.
